Clifford, The Big Red Suitcase

With all the vintage blanket finds lately, I'm running out of storage--actually, I'm beyond running out & into runneth over.

I'm working on creating extra space by doubling up the vintage finds. Let's just hope I can find them when I need them.

I've had this soft sided suitcase forever. It's darling, bright red and HUGE--like Clifford! I finally found a purpose for it other than looking cute. Soft storage!

It's a great use for suitcases. The vintage part just makes it attractive. :-)

The Other Vera--Vera Bradley

Any time I have ever said Vera, I meant Neumann, famous for her floral watercolors and silk screened scarves, 1940s-80s. But recently another Vera has come to my attention, Vera Bradley.

I remember Vera Bradley purses well, I just never really noticed them before as they were for the older set, our mother's friends and their sorority sisters. Not really my look.

However, Bradley has been making a comeback, apparently, with a younger, hipper generation and I'm taking notice.

This is my first Vera Bradley purchase. a Bradley "Saddle Up" bag in the Symphony in Hue pattern. I really love it. (I caved. It's Ebay listed here).*

* Holy cow! I posted The Saddle Up bag above on Ebay & it sold in a few hours at $36. Wow. Looking for more Vera Bradleys. :-)

My second Bradley purchase came surprisingly from a family friend cleaning out her closet. She had several Bradley's. This one I can't locate a pattern name but seems to go generally by blue leaf or blue maple leaf. Also, I can't locate the design or the retired year. Do you know? ;-)

This is the Chanticleer Rooster pattern in a small duffel bag. This pattern is retired, although I don't know what year here either.

All three purses are very clean and ready to use. The Roosters and Maple Leaves are featured in the shop now. The cool hip bag is still a possible addition to my own wardrobe. If not, it will be on my Ebay auction, as it's only a 2009. Too bad! It would look fabulous in the shop.

Love these colors! Boho paisley and the interior is playful and fun. Also, I like the large metal fob on the flap. It really gives it a more modern look. Thank you Vera Bradley. Well done.

Purses & boots, Oh My

Back on the thrifting trail yesterday, I found some great accessories. Nice transition pieces from summer to fall without going overboard on orange too early.

From left to right,: 1) A beautiful fiery red bag w/black bead work & a leather strap from Christiana. (Sorry dears, I'm keeping this one for a great date night.) 2) A super soft crochet handbag w/Vera Bradly lining & a curved bamboo handle. Love it! My dad, the quintessential swap & picker, found these at a friends basement clearance. 3) A pair of 1960's cowboy boots, real leather & fancy trim. Love them! 4) An embossed leather & hand painted handbag w/a gazillion pockets for all your goodies. Southwest fabulous. 5) Lastly, another great pair of fuzzy Snowfland apres-ski boots w/a wedge heel in excellent condition.

Vintage Luggage Heaven

I was out picking up my mom at the airport today and was early, so I trudged in the 100 degree heat over to terminal A to shoot my FAVORITE installation pieces--there's actually two of them.

I have more photos. I'll try and post them later, but this was my favorite shot. It's all real, by the way, every piece is vintage--suitcases, train cases, soft cases, hat boxes. I think there's even a golf bag up there near the top.

I could sit there, sipping coffee, staring at it all day. :-)

Today's Fab Find: A Vera Belt

What a find! I've only ever seen a Vera belt on-line and only a few, but to actually find one--and a great one! It's definitely this weeks big score, and it's only Monday. :-)

Vera Neumann boho belt, heavy leather, heavy metal. A gorgeous find.

 Check out that hardware! Two side metal hinges with metal rivets!

Always great with jeans, but would look stunning around a long skirt with high boots and bangled jewelry. :-)

Sweet Vintage Kitchen

I am so enamoured with this photo (right). It just grasps my love of sunny kitchens, sweet breakfast nooks, vintage decor, bold colors and sedums in coffee cups, which I do, and also adore. I only wish my kitchen were big enough for decorative counters. All space is taken. Send Oprah.

Blankets: Fall 2010

Shimmer {beautiful things}

I've always had a plethora of silverware in my kitchen. I don't store it; I use it. Why save the beautiful pieces for guests only? My cereal deserves a silver spoon too.

I also like mixing designs. Why settle on just one, when I  can have many favorites? Silverware is like jewelry, mix it up and have fun with it. :-)

Any time I'm at an estate sale, flea market, thrft store, I pick through the silverware and I can always find a piece or two that need a new home.

I love my latest finds. They were so deep in tarnish it took me an evening of silver polish--2 sitcoms worth--to get them this shiny. My thumbs were aching but aren't they beautiful?

Some pieces will be up for sale in my shop. I don't need a place setting for 20 so I'm up for sharing. Your cereal, pasta, soup deserves a silver spoon too. :-)

These Boots Are Walking

Every once in a while I get a customer who sends me an appreciation photo & I am SO thrilled, because I know they have found a vintage piece in my shop that they really love.

This adorable customer found her boots--you know, those boots that makes you feel alluring, gives you a saunter you may have forgotten you had. These are those boots for her, you can just tell!

Orloff Parfumes, Jean Vivaudou Co.

This is a Jean Vivaudou box of perfumed sachets from his 1939 Orloff parfumes collection called Nikki. The beauty of this treasure is I had absolutely no idea what I had found. The satiny sachets just appealed to me, so I rummaged it out of a throw away bag at an estate sale!
There are six sachets in the 5 inch square box and they still smell heavenly. Each one is silk in pink and creamy white.

Atop the box is the Orloff coat of arms famous on Vivaudou perfumes.

Inside the box I found this hand type set advertisement. You can feel the indentation of each letter and the roses. So lovely.

I found some fabulous vintage perfume enthusiasts on line that told me what a treasure I had uncovered. Thank you to The Vintage Perfume Vault and Cleopatra's Boudoir.

She Wore Sunglasses At Night

I want these specs for my new avatar, but the photo's not quite right. Still, they are fabulous, possibly the most fabulous sunglasses ever. And even better, they belonged to my grandmother. Stylish woman that she was. Thank you, grandma. :-)
P.S. They aren't for sale. Not now, not ever. I don't care what my mother says. ;-)

Pink Psychedelic

I posted these fabulous pieces, before I saw how fabulous they looked together. They might actually need each other. ;-) Maybe, a great fashionista will see this too. I'd love to sell them as a set, then receive a photo of the marvelous results. I love it when customers send me photos. It's the best.

Sweet & Pleasing

I found this festive watering can at my favorite thrift last week. I bought it to sell, but when I got it home and arranged it for photos, I fell in love with it. It's so simple and cheery and makes the perfect flower pot for long stemmed flowers. It's unique, colorful, whimsical. How can I let it go?

Normally I am a very focused vintage shopper. I love what I find, but I'm also clear that this is my business. I am buying for customers. If I kept all the goodies for myself I'd just be some hording collector. And really, what fun is that? Sharing is better.

And yet...once in a while I keep a piece or two for myself. Nothing huge or dramatic, rarely expensive, just a little something sweet and pleasing for myself. Sometimes I keep them for a while, sometimes for a very long while, but eventually most lovelies I pass on. Isn't that what Vintage is all about? ;-)

Playful Joy

I've been trying to recover my playful self. She's in here, right below the surface of worry, fear, sadness--all the hot feelings of our days thanks to our economy. She just needs to show up anyway. Take over any given moment. Good for me; good for the world. (Can you hear it? I've been listening to Marianne Williamson again *blush*) Still, good food for thought.

I need to be more playful in my work too. My shop needs some loving attention and playful joy. So, I'll be adding random pieces of fun. Hopefully you'll like them too.

The Men's Room

I put the breaks on my new men's vintage shop--which was wise for now. Still, I was excited. All that man shopping--or should I say "shopping for men"? Either way it sounds good.
These are a few goodies that I had found--Beatle boots, Stacy Adams brogues, fedoras, buckle boots, plus ties, cuff links and such. I think the guys need their own section at least, so The Mens Room will show off what I traditionally think of as men's ware. Enjoy, gentlemen!
