Vintage Designer Scarves

I am a scarf junky. I simply can not resist gliding my fingers through a basket of scarves and pulling up something silky smooth and artfully created that I get to wear. A scarf is the perfect "I'm running out the door and I need SOMETHING" accessory. Vintage scarves are even better.

Here are some new & old finds, all beautiful and ready for spring.

Elegant silk roses in shades of blue & pink, hand rolled edges, Liz Claiborne, 1970s.

Psychedelic Florals by Sally Gee, Paris. Buttery yellow chiffon, hand rolled edges, 1960s.

Abstract checker scarf, hand stitched edges, Elsa Schiaparelli, 1970s.

Paisley Moons & Stars: silk Anne Klein scarf, 70s 80s.

While these are on their way, there are more in the shop. Enjoy! d, xo

VERA at the Beach House

Life is so funny. Sometimes what you want is right in front of your face and you don't even see it. Well, I don't anyway. Our family has a beach house that my grandfather built in the 50s. It's funky & fabulous, and our family rotates through it all summer long.
While I was there through the holiday I was searching through the linen's closet when I spotted a bright yellow and orange sticking out from the bottom pile. I knew at once. I just knew.
I got more excited than a minor striking gold. I pulled them out and was enveloped in bold butterflies! I fondled for a tag and there it was "Vera Collection, Burlington." I nearly shrieked.
All these years--all those eras!--there they sat, mostly unused, my mother later tells me--just waiting for me to discover Vintage and Vera.
So, of course, I had to share them with you. Do I keep them or sell them? There are two twin fitted & one flat sheet. They won't fit my bed. Decisions, decisions.
Meanwhile, I'm enjoying just having them and knowing where they were hiding out all these years, at home. :-)

Hat Whimsy!

I don't know if it was the weather or the coffee but I had a sudden attack of hat whimsy today--and it was really fun. Normally, I dread being in front of the camera, like a dog backing away from a bath. Excuses, excuses: my chin this, my nose that, freckles, wrinkles, etc, etc. but today the sky was just so--overcast and forgiving, and my hats looked lonely in the shop, sitting atop hat stands, a bit. . . bored.
So, I grabbed my camera, swapped clothes, earrings, hats and shot them before even I could protest.

The Buttery Creme Wedding Guest: paper roses, chocolate velvet ribbon, light brown tulle netting. Without season, delicate, elegant, no tag; $28.

Below, is the sophisticated felt velour turban with abalone button and trim. I got out my old glasses and trench coat. I look urban-editor ready, $28.

Below, this hat reminds me of the story book, Madeline, all grown up, having discarded her yellow ribboned hat for grown-up gray.
Bullocks Wilshire Sportswear, $38. (hardly what I think of when someone says sportswear.)

It has a black rolled velvet button on top. It retains it whimsy.

Lastly, my favorite find: the hot pink, faux fur bucket hat. 2 1/2" wide grosgrain ribbon with enormous bow. Sparkly pink rhinetstone earrings to match. Dare I wear it in public?

Hat by Duchess, Italy; designed for Marshall Fields & Co, Chicago, $45; matching earrings, $14.
It may never happen again, so it's good I posted it now. The woman who dared to step in front of the camera on a whimsical winter day. :-)

Come by the shop: Dahlila,Found. We'll talk hats. Maybe, you'll throw conservative to the wind and dare to be the owner of a whimsical hat. ;-)

Moo Birthday Surprise

Today is my birthday. In years past I have been known to hide, in bed, covers pulled over my head until the day passes. This year I'm getting into my own little party. Not all together certain why, but it beats the alternative, so why not celebrate.
A great birthday surprise: My Moo Cards came in the mail. I'm very excited as this is one of those items on "the list" that has been waylaid too long. I have cards. I am a business. I rock. :-)

Appreciation Photo!

What a great surprise. I often tell my customers, if they like, send me a photo wearing your new vintage find. And this showed up in my Appreciation Photos. Love it! The gorgeous vintage aqua stilettos, 4" heel.

Her fabulous pin-up portrait wearing them. Va-voom!

School House Rock

Who didn't love School House Rock? I learned more watching it than I learned in grade school all together. It was certainly more fun and you got to sing about it at the top of your lungs while eating cereal in your pjs. Schools should take heed.
Today, I found this great School House Rock wallet and snatched it up in good memories. It is not, however, vintage. SO, I'm having a FREEBIE contest, a little "Where's Waldo?" in my Etsy shop.

It's simple: 1) You find the photo of the wallet hidden amongst my shop goodies. 2) You post a direct message to me on my Twitter page of where you found it (what item it was hidden with). And baby, that wallet is yours!
Have fun, and while your searching, remember which School House Rock song you liked the best and sing it, preferably at the top of your lungs. ;-)

Bella Pink

My family dropped by today, unexpectedly. My niece looked so lovely, so fabulous from head to toe I made her pose with a plethora of shop accessories. The pink purse looked especially darling with her pink posie hair band. I was thrilled at how wonderfully navy blue and pink work together--bold and soft--bella signorina.

Cream in My Coffee, Treasury

Dahlila, Found has had the honor of getting added to a lot of treasuries lately. It always feels special. This one really spoke to me: the beautiful oval bone white earrings, the supple cardigan & my Eliza Doolittle Train case. I could wear it all, take the case, filled with secret goodies and board the train to wherever. Who doesn't love an enchanting train trip. :-)
Thank you Uncorked for this beautiful treasury, dahlila xxoo

Coffee & brioche

Thank goodness for Italian coffee, French brioche & apricot jam. My morning salvation.
Today I am running off to another estate sale--It's spring & sales abound! So, coffee in hand-- lists, purse, camera and I am off. Meanwhile I will leave you with my favorite typed word snippets from Dahlila. :-)
They're a nice way to send a friend a cappuccino and brioche without getting the envelope all soggy. ;-)
Have a nice day and wish me luck! You never know what I will find?

First Anniversary

I missed my first Etsy anniversary. It was last week. It came and went and I was non-the-wiser. I should really be better at this, having been schooled from a very young age to never forget a birthday, anniversary or RSVP requiring commemoration, even when it's my own.

So, without further adieu: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY DAHLILA FOUND! I've done well, shopped fabulously, sleuthed in the farthest corners and found the best forgotten treasures. I've made some great new friends and customers, learned lessons, and given the upmost attention to my shop. (I'm giving myself a pat on the back, just for this special day, since I did it all by myself.)

I'm making a wish and blowing out the candles!

Thank you all,
dahlila♥

Turquoise Wild

The turquoise stilettos got selected for another treasury! They are very popular, but who is daring enough to buy them? And wear them! I want a photo when it happens. I love it when customers send me photos of their purchase living anew in their lives.

Thank you SusAntiques!

Dark Blue

I just finished these lovelies and sent them off to their new owner. I had never thought of crocheting wristlets in dark blue before, but I like them. They'd look dashing with my dark blue beret (I bought the beret in Paris when I was 17 and I've managed to keep it all these years.) I suppose that makes the beret--and me--vintage. ;-)

Tea & Shoes

I'm sorry I've been away. I've not been feeling well which makes it hard to shop, type or write. Still, I've been drinking lots of tea & browsing through boxes of shoes. These are a pair of my favorite finds. Vintage Kenneth Cole, wedge heel, 3" faux alligator print, patent leather, size 10. Alas, they do not fit me. Will they fit you?

Gratitude

I had the nicest sale this week for these two pairs of wrist warmers, plus a special order! The best part is the customer was really happy. And that is just over the top. Thank you happy customers!
(This is my niece. She just got her braces off. Look at that smile!)
This is a L. She wears the cutest outfits. I love her fuzzy hat! She modeled my wrist warmers for me right when she was having coffee with a friend. (Beware of me and my camera at the cafe!)
Thank you ladies--models, friends, customers and nieces, d.

Tea & Valentines

I love this tea tin. Made in England, it was surely once filled with English Breakfast, my favorite tea, sitting pretty alongside a breakfast nook with porcelain tea cups, sugar and cream. It would make a lovely Valentine's gift for a dear friend. It's new in the shop. Enjoy, dahlila.

Isn't this lovely. A beautiful estate sale find. I'm enamored with lamps lately. I've posted five and I have two more! I can't resist. They brighten up a home.

100th Sale!

I keep changing blog colors and fonts and moving stuff around. The next thing you know I've been sitting here diddling away another hour! Need to get new items posted! Back to work!
Meanwhile, last night, 40 minutes before midnight, I had my 100th sale. Exciting kismet to say the least, because I opened my Etsy doors on January 1, 2008. Dahlila was my first shop and she's still there but not moving nearly as fast as DahlilaFound.
I'm going to send my customer a little something extra. Also, I'd like to say a big "THANK YOU" to all my customers. You've been great and I appreciate your business.
